The organising committee chairman, Drazen Zivic, the demographer
from the Ivo Pilar social sciences institute said the topic of this
year's event was an "important, current" topic of crucial
significance for the further development of Croatian society.
He said the purpose of the gathering was to exchange information on
demographic problems, establish new facts and offer some of the
answers to demographic problems which no doubt "are limiting
Croatia's social and economic growth", Zivic said.
In his key-note speech, institute director Vlado Sakic said that
every development strategy was based on a population policy.
This is the fourth annual gathering organised by the Ivo Pilar
Institute. Previous symposiums addressed the issues of Croatian
elites and modernisation, psycho-social processes of social
development, and Croatian historiography.
