GENEVA, Dec 10 (Hina) - When legislation regulating the transfer of
authority and replacement of senior officials after
(parliamentary) elections is adopted, I will comply with it,
Croatia's President Stjepan Mesic said in Geneva on Wednesday when
asked to comment on an article in Globus weekly on replacements of
Croatian diplomatic representatives. #L#
In its latest issue, the weekly said that after the new government
was formed, the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) would make some
changes in the diplomatic staff, including the replacement of the
current ambassadors to Berlin and Moscow, Vesna Cvjetkovic Kurelec
and Bozo Kovacevic respectively.
"There will be no purges in sectors where I hold constitutional
powers," Mesic said.
Mesic said that during his recent talks with Premier-Designate Ivo
Sanader they had discussed the matter, but "there was no mention of
solutions which would be outside institutions".
"If somebody is doing their job very well during their term of
office, there is no reason for their replacement," Mesic said.
