Wednesday held a ceremony marking the 140th anniversary of the
birth of the greatest Croatian opera singer, Milka Trnina. #L#
At the ceremony, held at the Croatian National Theatre (HNK) in
Zagreb, musicologist Jagoda Martincevic said there was a plenty of
documents, reviews and books on Trnina's work, but unfortunately,
there were almost no audio recordings of her voice. Trnina had won
world acclaim while performing in Germany, Russia, England,
Switzerland and the United States.
Katarina Milka Trnina was born on 19 December 1863 in Vezisce, a
village between Ivanic Grad and Kutina (some 40 kilometres east of
Zagreb), and died on 18 May 1941 in Zagreb.
Vladimir Gajski, the author of a book on this diva, revealed an
interesting detail from Trnina's life. A well-known chocolate
producer from Switzerland, who was an admirer of Wagner's works,
which Trnina often performed, named the world-famous chocolate
'Milka' after Milka Trnina.
