BELGRADE, Dec 9 (Hina) - An until now unknown eyewitness to the
murder of reporter Slavko Curuvija has "precisely identified" the
suspects as the perpetrators of the murder, the Serbian Interior
Ministry's special prosecution for organised crime and department
for the fight against organised crime said in a statement on
Tuesday. #L#
Curuvija, the owner of Dnevni telegraf daily and Evropljanin
weekly, was killed in Belgrade on 11 April 1999, during NATO's
intervention against the then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.
The ministry said in a statement that it had had no knowledge of the
eyewitness to Curuvija's murder, who emerged on December 5, and
that his statement led to significant progress in shedding light on
the murder and discovering the perpetrator.
"Since this is an organised political assassination, operative
work on the case will resume to formally identify the person(s) who
ordered, organised and took part in it," the ministry said in the
statement, adding that "the identity of the current suspects cannot
be revealed due to the ongoing investigation".
