Addressing the rally, Anto Kovacevic, the first candidate on the
coalition's list in constituency no. 9, said a radical turnaround
was necessary because "Croatia has touched bottom".
"It is necessary to pull out the weed in order to cultivate the
soil," Kovacevic said, adding that the main sin of the Racan
government was that it had done all it could to push the victims of
war into oblivion.
"It is our sacred duty to go to the polls and change this
government," he said, adding that "a nation whose government sends
its generals to the guillotine has no future."
"You will not make a mistake if you cast your vote for the HKDU/HCSP
coalition, if you cast your vote for Ante, because no Ante among
Croats has ever been bad," Kovacevic said, alluding to Ante
Pavelic, leader of the Nazi puppet regime in Croatia during World
War Two.
Tadija Barun of the HCSP, the second candidate on the list, said if
this coalition won seats in parliament, "we will not hesitate to
call top state officials to account for treason and revealing state
secrets, including President Mesic."
