ZADAR, Nov 13 (Hina) - The Croatian Social Liberal Party/Democratic
Centre (HSLS/DC) coalition presented at an election rally in Zadar
on Thursday its candidates in constituency no. 9, who are led by the
head and first candidate on the roster, Josko Kontic. The rally was
addressed by HSLS president Drazen Budisa and DC leader Mate
Granic. #L#
Addressing the rally, Budisa apologised for, as he said, the period
when the HSLS was in a coalition with the Social Democratic Party
(SDP).
"We formed the coalition with the SDP because we believed that
Croatia would succeed in what other transition countries have
succeeded, namely that we would see a period of prosperity. That
didn't happen. The balance of this government is very poor, and
citizens now feel the way they felt four years ago," Budisa said.
He said that "there is no doubt that this government is already
gone" and that the "opposition has already won", the only thing that
remained unknown being "the ratio of terms of opposition parties".
Budisa believes that the currently ruling parties, too, are aware
that they have lost the elections. "At this moment, while we are
here, Racan is performing with (pop singer) Severina. Who could
have thought that a Croatian premier would end up like that," Budisa
said.
DC leader Mate Granic said that the signing of a ministerial charter
on market liberalisation in the western Balkans in Rome today was
yet another step Croatia was taking towards the Balkans.
The new Croatian government, made up of current opposition parties,
will be five times more European than Racan's, Granic said.
