Speaking at a press conference in Bjelovar, 70km northeast of
Zagreb, the chairman of the party's central board, Radimir Cacic,
said that Croatia was facing the threat of being tied to the Balkans
and entering the EU in a package with Serbia and Montenegro,
Macedonia and other countries in the region if the Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) and its right-wing coalition partners came
to power.
Cacic said that May next year was the final deadline for Croatia to
start accession talks with the EU and enter the bloc before other
Balkan nations.
He said that his party showed that the projects he had proposed to
the government proved justified. In this context he mentioned a
project by the Croatian Highways company and a series of projects by
his Ministry of Public Works and Construction which he said were run
by the HNS.
The HNS list of candidates in constituency no. 2 is topped by Stanko
Kovac, the chairman of the board of directors of Croatian
Highways.
