ZAGREB, Oct 29 (Hina) - Even a year after the quashing of an
interlocutory verdict, under which the government was obliged to
enable General Ante Gotovina's defence access to documents
forwarded to the Hague tribunal, the Zagreb Municipal Court has not
held a hearing about a re-trial. #L#
The government's representative in the case, deputy chief state
prosecutor Zlata Hrvoj Sipek, and a lawyer from Gotovina's defence
team, Ante Vukorepa, told Hina on Wednesday they did not receive a
summons for the re-trial.
Last October, the Zagreb County Court quashed the interlocutory
verdict delivered by the Zagreb Municipal Court on the grounds of
its being unlawful and returned it to the court of first instance
for further deliberation.
Vukorepa believes that the County Court recognised his status of
Gotovina's defence attorney in the process of his extradition to
the U.N. war crimes tribunal at The Hague.
He said he was disappointed with today's decision of the government
because he expected the government to act in line with a conclusion
adopted by parliament under which the cabinet was obliged to
forward documentation to the tribunal's suspects and indictees.
