BELGRADE, Oct 28 (Hina) - Serbia-Montenegro's Minister for Human
and Minority Rights Rasim Ljajic has announced the national council
for cooperation with the Hague war crimes tribunal for the former
Yugoslavia should convene by the end of the week but that no
"spectacular decisions" should be expected. #L#
He was quoted by Novi Sad's Dnevnik daily of Tuesday as saying he did
not know if Sreten Lukic, a police general recently indicted by the
U.N. tribunal, would voluntarily surrender to the tribunal and that
there were no indications as to when that might occur.
The minister said the recent issuing of indictment against four
senior police and military officials, including Lukic, had come at
the worst possible moment in the political sense. "That's another
proof of the Tribunal's complete lack of understanding, which shows
that neither the Tribunal nor the international community have
verified our cooperation in a valid manner."
Ljajic said it would be best if war crimes were prosecuted by
domestic courts, which he added might happen only if Bosnian Serb
war-time military commander Ratko Mladic was extradited.
