ZAGREB, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Telecommunications Council will not and

for the second national operator of fixed telephony in Croatia. The
council's decision is final and it was made in compliance with laws,
the council's chairman, Zeljko Debanic, said on Friday. #L#
Debanic held a news conference today to react to Thursday's
statement by the Croatian minister of communications and
transport, Roland Zuvanic, who said he believed that "the members
of the council will realise they have made a mistake and annul the
decision," referring to the licence for the Divan company.
Zuvanic added that his ministry would abolish the council's
decision next week, after competent inspectors reviewed the entire
pertinent documentation and established that there had been a
series of breaches of regulations during the adoption of the
decision.
The private company Divan, behind which stand the Croatian Ingra
company, the U.S. 'New World Capital Corporation (NWCC) and the
Lucent technology company, did meet conditions for the licence,
accepting to pay 40 million kuna for the licence and to ensure 50
million euros for investments in four years, Debanic told reporters
adding that it was why it was given the licence.
