Zoran Ateljevic told Beta news agency on Sunday the decision on the
extradition of his client, charged with crimes in southern
Croatia's Dubrovnik area in 1991, did not contain all the elements
of the indictment. He requested that a new extradition decision be
passed, announcing an appeal against it.
Human and Minority Rights Minister Rasim Ljajic said on Friday the
court of first instance said in its decision that Kovacevic was
charged on two counts -- violations of the laws and customs of war,
and breaches of the Geneva conventions -- while the decision of the
court of second instance mentioned only the second count.
Ljajic said the error was made by the judiciary, which subsequently
established that the Hague tribunal's indictment charged Kovacevic
on one count and passed a decision on the extradition.
Attorney Ateljevic said his client's medical condition did not
allow for extradition. Belgrade media said last week that he was
suffering from post-traumatic stress.
