ZAGREB, Oct 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Sunday forwarded a note of condolence to the family of former Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency chairman Alija Izetbegovic, who died in Sarajevo earlier today.

Izetbegovic's role of statesman in the war and post-war years in
Bosnia-Herzegovina is unquestionable, and his personality and
political activity left an indelible mark on events in that
country, Mesic said in the note.
"I often met him on countless peace conferences which,
unfortunately, failed to prevent the war. We continued our
acquaintanceship later as well, when Bosnia-Herzegovina managed to
survive as an independent country."
