Powell held talks with ICTY Chief Prosecutor Carla Del Ponte in
Washington on Friday on the tribunal's activities and exit
strategy.
Del Ponte thanked the U.S. on its support.
The two officials also talked about the plans for the closure of the
tribunal's work. According to UN Security Council Resolution 1503,
adopted in August this year, the tribunal should complete all
investigations by the end 2004, all trials by the end of 2008 and all
appeal processes by the end of 2010.
