A total of 13,650 bricks built into the wall signify persons who
were killed or went missing during the Homeland War.
The families of missing and killed persons and war veterans
requested the authorities not to forget those who were killed or
went missing, because they had made the greatest sacrifice for
freedom and independence.
They asked of the government to more strongly advocate amendments
to the Statute of the International Court, which was adopted in
1993, stating that it was contrary to the UN's principles as the
court's primary task was not to put on trial those responsible for
war crimes.
The families of detained, killed and missing persons started
building the "Wall of Pain" on 26 September 1993 outside the then UN
headquarters in Zagreb in an appeal for humanity and human rights.
