ZAGREB, Sep 9 (Hina) - The president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Jean Lemierre, and his associates on Tuesday spoke with the Croatian National Bank (HNB) governor Zeljko Rohatinski and other bank
officials. The talks revolved around macroeconomic circumstances and fiscal policies, the situation in the banking system and possibilities for the EBRD to support further structural reforms and Croatia's economic accession to the European Union.
ZAGREB, Sep 9 (Hina) - The president of the European Bank for
Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Jean Lemierre, and his
associates on Tuesday spoke with the Croatian National Bank (HNB)
governor Zeljko Rohatinski and other bank officials. The talks
revolved around macroeconomic circumstances and fiscal policies,
the situation in the banking system and possibilities for the EBRD
to support further structural reforms and Croatia's economic
accession to the European Union. #L#
Lemierre was interested in the HNB's opinion on how concerning the
current payment indicators and trends in the banking sector were as
well as the possibility for central fiscal institutions to keep
control over current events in these two areas, the HNB reported.
What monetary policy -- i.e. a low inflation rate, a stable exchange
rate and external solvency of the country -- can do to encourage
investments and reduce the risk will continue to be the HNB's major
objectives, the bank's statement added.
The EBRD president welcomed such an approach and stressed his
bank's readiness to continue supporting structural changes and
Croatia's efforts on its path to the European Union in such a way
that will be most appropriate to Croatia's needs and to the interest
of both sides.
