Relations between Zagreb and Ljubljana worsened after Slovene
Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel on Monday described his Croatian
counterpart Tonino Picula's statement that Slovenia had no access
to the open sea and that an initialled border agreement had no legal
effects as "unacceptable", and after the Slovene minister
announced that this might harm bilateral relations.
Rupel added that his country could reconsider its support to
Croatia's bids to come closer to the European Union and NATO.
On Sunday evening Slovenia recalled its ambassador from Zagreb to
Ljubljana for consultations, in response to Picula's interview in
the Slobodna Dalmacija daily.
