The centre has 62 beds and can provide a whole-day programme for 90
persons. It has cost 24.5 million kuna (around EUR3.26 million), of
which 17.8 million was secured by the Labour and Social Welfare
Ministry and the rest by the City of Rijeka.
Labour and Social Welfare Minister Davorko Vidovic, Vice-Premier
Slavko Linic and Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel opened the centre.
The minister said that the principles of the upcoming reform of the
social care system would be implemented at the centre.
Under those principles, the centre's inmates will live with their
families, but they will be given special services during their
whole day programme at the centre. According to Vidovic, the reform
of the social care system should be completed by 2006.
