Racan pointed to Msgr. Einaudi's great contribution to the
development of Croatia-Holy See relations, adding that the help of
the Holy Father and the Vatican had been crucial for Croatia in the
most difficult times.
The PM said the pope's June visit to Croatia had been the crown of
Einaudi's work and good cooperation between the Croatian state and
the Catholic Church.
Msgr. Einaudi said John Paul II advocated the Holy See's moral and
spiritual support to Croatia's accession to the European Union and
that Croatia was expected to be the spiritual and moral guide to the
other countries in the region.
Einaudi reiterated his gratitude for the efforts Croatia's
government had made during the pope's visit, and voiced hope
Croatia would join the EU as soon as possible.
