Mass at the largest national Marian shrine at Marija Bistrica was
celebrated by Archbishop of Zagreb Josip Bozanic, who warned in his
sermon of the "dangers of carelessly forgetting the victims of the
recent war... refugees and the displaced, those who today cannot
return to their homes".
Today's holiday was also celebrated at Sinj, the largest Marian
shrine in southern Croatia, with more than 50,000 faithful
attending, including people from neighbouring Bosnia and
Herzegovina as well as foreign tourists.
The Feast of the Assumption was also celebrated at the shrine to the
Mother of God in Krasno on Mount Velebit, the Marian shrine in
eastern Croatia's Aljmas, and the sanctuary of the Mother of God of
Trsat near Rijeka.
