"Three and a half years ago the debt was US$9 billion and today it
totals US$18 billion, which equals the level of the debt of the
former Yugoslavia," Budisa told a press conference in the northern
Adriatic city of Pula.
The HSLS leader said that the growth of the external debt brought
into question the economic successes claimed by the government.
Budisa described as inconsistent statements by Finance Minister
Mato Crkvenac and National Bank Governor Zeljko Rohatinski on the
share of the foreign debt in GDP.
