"I have visited fire-fighters in order to support and encourage
them, but also to be acquainted with the developments on the ground
and see what else can be done in the organisation," Racan told
Hina.
He announced his meeting with fire-fighting chiefs for tomorrow,
and added that he would tour other areas hit by fires.
Asked to comment on today's statement by the opposition Social
Liberal (HSLS) leader, Drazen Budisa, who asserted that the number
of the fires raging along the Adriatic coast in recent days
suggested that they were organised acts of arson, the premier said
that the arrests of a few arsonists in recent days "do not prove the
theory of conspiracy".
"The situation is already serious, and it is not good that
politicians, regardless who they are, are using it for political
fighting, or that they give unchecked pieces of information," Racan
added.
According to the latest reports of the national Information Centre,
a part of blazes between Sumartin, Milna and Nerezisce on the island
of Brac was contained thanks to an abated wind, but the fire on the
southern side from Lozisce toward the sea is still raging.
