During his one-day stay in Banja Luka, the pope will celebrate mass
and beatify Ivan Merz. The Holy Father will also met Bosnia's top
officials, bishops and representatives of the country's inter-
religion council.
The pope was greeted at Banja Luka airport by the most senior
Bosnian officials, led by the chairman of the country's three-man
Presidency, Borislav Paravac, international High Representative
Paddy Ashdown, Cardinal Vinko Puljic and bishops Franjo Komarica,
Ratko Peric and Pero Sudar.
Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and president of the government's
commission for relations with religious communities, Goran Granic,
will attend the holy mass on behalf of the Croatian government.
Pope John Paul II visited Bosnia for the first time in 1997.
