The purpose of this visit, which is Mesic's second trip to France
this year after a visit to French President Jacques Chirac in
February, is to help strengthen economic relations and demonstrate
Croatia's readiness to be a political partner to France in South-
East Europe.
At tomorrow's economic forum "Croatia - Partner to France", the
economic situation in the country and opportunities of doing
business will be presented by Croatian Chamber of Commerce
president Nadan Vidosevic, the president of the Croatian
Employers' Association and Croatian Telecom CEO Ivica Mudrinic,
Croatian Reconstruction and Development Bank director Anton
Kovacev, Croatian National Bank deputy governor Boris Vujcic, and
presidents or members of the boards of several leading Croatian
companies.
After the talks with Poncelet, Mesic will visit the Serbian-
Montenegrin Embassy, where he will meet the country's president
Svetozar Marovic. The two presidents are expected to discuss the
upcoming European summit in Salonika, as well as a meeting of the
heads of state and government of countries which signed the
Stability Pact for South-East Europe.
On Thursday, Mesic will address participants in the economic forum
and later attend the signing of three agreements between Croatia
and France.
At the end of his two-day visit, Mesic will meet French Premier
Jean-Pierre Raffarin, however, the meeting is yet to be officially
confirmed.
