The Serbia and Montenegrin foreign ministry has described the
attack as "an incident which cannot be justified".
Relaying the official stand of the ministry and the country,
Basaraba said the incident had no connection with politics, but was
the result of an omission for which they assumed full
responsibility. He added he would do everything to see that this
never happened again.
Hooligans last night smashed windows on the Croatian embassy in
Belgrade, removed the Croatian coat of arms and flag and replaced it
with one of Serbia-Montenegro following a water polo match between
Croatia and Serbia-Montenegro in Kranj, Slovenia.
Serbia and Montenegrin Foreign Minister Dragisa Burzan sent a
letter to his Croatian counterpart, Tonino Picula, today,
condemning the act and requested Serbian authorities to punish the
perpetrators.
