Croatian Foreign Minister Tonino Picula's visit to Montenegro on
June 16-17 was cancelled with both sides' agreement, at Croatia's
proposal, following Sunday's assault on the embassy, the ministry
said, adding the building was damaged and Croatia's coat of arms and
flag were desecrated.
It added the Montenegrin ministry said the assault on the embassy
and the desecration of Croatian state symbols constituted a crude
violation of the commitments a host country had under the Vienna
Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
The Montenegrin ministry regrets the incident and urges Serbian
bodies to establish the responsibility of those whose duty it was to
prevent it and bring the initiators and perpetrators to justice,
the Croatian ministry said.
The assault was carried out by sport fans after Serbia-Montenegro
defeated Croatia at a water polo match played in Slovenia
yesterday.
