"Croatia will fulfil and complete all of its commitments and
conditions for EU membership by the end of 2006, as planned," Racan
told Croatian reporters in Dublin covering his trip to Ireland.
Racan's comment came in the wake of European Council chairman
Costas Simitis' statement earlier today that Croatia might close
negotiations on joining the EU in 2008 or 2009. Simitis said Croatia
was in a better position than the other countries in the region but
that all had to work towards adopting and implementing EU
principles, laws, values, and practice.
