PARLIAMENT RATIFIES DEAL ON PREVENTING SPREADING OF NUCLEAR ARMS

ZAGREB, June 13 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday ratified an agreement signed with the United States in February on cooperation in preventing the spreading of weapons of mass destruction and the advancement of defence and military relations.
ZAGREB, June 13 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday ratified an agreement signed with the United States in February on cooperation in preventing the spreading of weapons of mass destruction and the advancement of defence and military relations. #L# In pursuance to the deal, Croatian Armed Forces will prevent the illegal transfer, transit and transport of such weapons. They will also be trained for removing the consequences of and establishing such criminal acts, as well as crisis management. MPs also ratified an agreement on open skies which envisages upgrading the system of conventional armament control and the inclusion of the Croatian system into the international control network. Parliament adopted a report on the participation of Croatian troops in UN peace missions. MPs also endorsed a bill on the ratification of a protocol on cooperation in the prevention of pollution from vessels and in cases of danger and in the prevention of pollution of the Mediterranean. They supported a proposal by the Croatian Party of Rights that the government initiate a diplomatic action that the Adriatic be declared a sensitive sea area and obtain the status of a protected Mediterranean area. With a majority of votes, deputies adopted a report on the work of the commission on submissions and complaints, which received 939 citizens' complaints last year, mostly in areas of housing, utilities and the violation of property, welfare, health and labour rights. Parliament also endorsed a report on the implementation of the law on the rights of Homeland War veterans, as well as a Croatian Democratic Union's conclusion that the government should inform parliament within a month about solving the problem of constructed, not allocated flats to veterans and invalids of war.
