ZAGREB, June 6 (Hina) - The Catholic Press Agency (IKA) and Hina on
Friday received two e-mail messages with the same content, signed
by the Islamic Front el Mudjehedin, threatening the murder of Pope
John Paul II during his current visit to Croatia. #L#
Zinka Bardic, spokeswoman for the Interior Ministry, told Hina the
police estimated that the safety of the Pope, his entourage and the
faithful was not threatened at all. The police are looking for and
taking all measures to locate the sender of the message, Bardic
said.
The sender - the Islamic Front el Mudjehedin - says the message is
sent in the name of Allah and threatens to kill the Pope during his
visit to, as it says, the Ustasha-Fascist country when he least
expects it.
The message arrived at IKA this morning, while Hina received it at
17:05 hours. The e-mail, entitled "message to infidels", was sent
by an Ali Muhammed from the address muslim@bosnia.ba.
"By all indications, the message was sent from abroad and we have
requested international police assistance and have been
cooperating with Croatian security services as well," Bardic
said.
Pope John Paul II on Thursday arrived for a five-day visit to
Croatia, the third in the last nine years.
