Schieder expressed hope Serbia and Montenegro would show
resistance towards the U.S. request and decide to respect the
international law and the values of the quality of being equal, i.e.
that all citizens are equal before the law.
Schieder told Belgrade's Blic daily of Friday that Serbia and
Montenegro would one day become an EU member country which is why it
should respect European standards.
He said this was a choice between respecting and violating the
international law and not a choice between the United States and the
European Union. The CoE official stressed, however, the EU would
not sanction Serbia and Montenegro should it decide to sign the
agreement with the US after all.
