WASHINGTON WASHINGTON, June 6 (Hina) - Diplomats and legal experts on Thursday participated in a round table discussion on the ongoing reform in the Croatian judiciary, which took place in the Croatian embassy in Washington.
WASHINGTON, June 6 (Hina) - Diplomats and legal experts on Thursday participated in a round table discussion on the ongoing reform in the Croatian judiciary, which took place in the Croatian embassy in Washington. #L# At this round table Ambassador Ivan Grdesic and his assistant Kresimir Pirsl spoke about the reform in Croatia's judiciary, designed to establish the rule of law. The event was attended by representatives of the Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (CEELI), an organisation set up by the American Bar Association in 1990 with an aim to help reforms in former Communist states. Presenting the activities of the CEELI, its executive director, David Tolbert, said that it was being active in 28 countries in transition. Since 1990, 5,000 law experts have been engaged on a voluntarily basis in programmes of assistance to those countries. The CEELI has been active in Croatia since 1993. In the embassy, the CEELI president Homer Moyer spoke about the latest project of this organisation, namely an institute in Prague, which should help in training of judges, lawyers and other law experts. The event in the Croatian embassy also pooled ambassadors of Azerbeijan, Georgia, Moldova and Belarus, officials from other eastern European embassies and representatives of the U.S. State Department.
