Compared with the end of last year, the total foreign debt nominally
grew by almost $1.7 billion, or 17 percent. Around $330 million of
this increased amount pertains to the influence of currency
adjustments, considering the drop of the dollar in relation to the
euro, while $1.36 billion are actual transactions, the HNB says.
In relation to the end of February, the overall foreign debt in
March increased nominally by $483 million.
The state increased its debt in this year's first trimester by a
nominal $539 million, while banks' debts grew by $462 million.
Other sectors -- companies and other non-financial institutions,
mostly leasing companies -- incurred $454 million higher debts.
At the end of March, the state's overall debt was $6.89 billion,
i.e. 40.5% of Croatia's total foreign debt.
Banks' debts amounted to $4.47 billion, i.e. 26.3% of the total
foreign debt. Other sectors' debts were $4.35 billion, or 25.5% of
the country's debts.
Direct investments account for $1.28 billion, or 7.5% of the total
foreign debt.
