Iran and Croatia had very good cooperation in the past and it is time
to encourage its further development, the Iranian minister told
Croatian reporters after talks with Picula.
Picula reminded that some Croatian companies had been present on
the Iranian market in the past, particularly in the realisation of
infrastructure jobs.
At today's talks, the two officials focused on cooperation in food
production, pharmaceutical and shipbuilding industries, the use of
free zones and ports, tourism and transport and communication.
"These are the fields that I believe will be verified at the 4th
session of a joint committee on economic cooperation to be held at
the end of June or beginning of September," Picula said
Iran-Croatia trade in 1994 amounted to US$295 million, while in the
1980s, when it was still part of the former Yugoslavia, Croatia
realised three fourths of Yugoslavia's overall exchange with Iran
totalling US$700 million.
The two ministers also discussed issues regarding the situation in
the regions of Croatia and Iran.
Later today, Picula should meet the president of the Iranian
parliament, Mahdi Karroubi, and head of state Mohammad Khatami.
