The decisions were co-signed by President Stjepan Mesic and Premier
Ivica Racan, while the parliamentary committee for interior
affairs and national security gave its positive opinion on the
appointment.
Loncaric and Turek had been acting in these positions until their
official appointment.
President Mesic signed the appointments last year however Premier
Racan did so only after the Easter holidays this year.
The legal deadline for the appointment of the heads of the secret
services expired in April last year.
Gordan Cacic was appointed the head of the third intelligence
agency, the VOA (former SIS, i.e. military intelligence service)
several months ago.
