ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on

of International Labour Day, May 1. In his message, Mesic said that

conditions for entry into Europe". #L#
"We will celebrate this year's Labour Day without a new Labour Act
which should guarantee to workers that their work will be
adequately valued, but that it would also be adjusted to the
European legislation," the president said. He stressed the
necessity of reaching an agreement and continuing talks between
workers and employers and all those involved in the law adoption
process.
Mesic says Croatia should use the experience of other transitional
countries which had or still have similar problems in the process of
adjusting its economy and legislation to the European and market
economies.
"I am confident that we are on the right path, but that it needs to be
encouraged and accelerated. Croatia today is the biggest road
construction site in Europe and roads stimulate economic growth. By
establishing clear regulations on the labour market and adjusting
to the European legislation we will create conditions for entering
Europe, and I believe this is the wish of all Croatian citizens to
whom I wish all the best on International Labour Day, May 1," said
Mesic in his message.
