INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2003 INCREASES BY 6.5%

ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - Industrial production in Croatia in the first three months of 2003 increased by 6.5% compared to the same period last year. In relation to the period October-December 2002, industrial production dropped by 0.9%, the Central Bureau of Statistics stated Tuesday.
ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - Industrial production in Croatia in the first three months of 2003 increased by 6.5% compared to the same period last year. In relation to the period October-December 2002, industrial production dropped by 0.9%, the Central Bureau of Statistics stated Tuesday. #L# The increase in industrial production was mostly a result of increased production in almost all main segments of activity. Manufacturing industry, which accounts for 83% of industrial activity in the country, saw a growth of 6.2%; power, gas and water supply increased by 6.6% while mining increased by as much as 21.8%. According to the main industrial groups, the highest increase compared to last year's first quarter was recorded in the production of durable consumer goods - 8.5%. The production of non- durable consumer goods increased by 7.8%, of intermediary products (not including energy) by 6.7%, and of energy by 6.6%. The production of capital products saw a drop of 0.5%. Compared to the last quarter of 2002, a production drop was recorded in all main segments of activity and the deepest plunge was recorded in power, gas and water supply - 1.5%. Manufacturing industry saw a drop of 0.3%, while mining dropped by 0.2%. According to the main industrial groups, the production of capital products dropped by 6.4%, of intermediary products (not including energy) by 1.8%, and of energy by 0.8%.
