RIJEKA, April 23 (Hina) - The president of the Primorje-Gorski
Kotar Alliance party (PGS), Nikola Ivanis, told reporters in Rijeka
on Wednesday that the visa regime for Serbia and Montenegro should
be either annulled or liberalised. #L#
Ivanis believes that the existing visa regime is detrimental for
Croatian state and economic interests.
If the government establishes that there are no conditions for
cancelling the visa regime, the PGS will advocate its
liberalisation, in particular for tourist visas issued at border
crossings, said Ivanis.
He believes the process should be expedited so that the faithful,
especially Catholics from Montenegro and Vojvodina could arrive to
Croatia to follow the visit of Pope John Paul II.
A more liberal regime should be extended to the summer season so
that it is easier for Serbian and Montenegrin tourists to go on
vacation in Croatia, he said.
The leader of this regional party said he would again today send a
request for the cancelling of the visa regime to Croatian foreign
and European integration ministries. According to him, he received
no reply to his first letter.
