HRVATSKA KOSTAJNICA, April 9 (Hina) - The U.S. Ambassador to
Croatia, Lawrence Rossin, on Wednesday said he hoped that an
Adriatic Charter would be signed in the few coming weeks. #L#
During his visit to the town of Hrvatska Kostajnica, the U.S.
diplomat said Washington was working with the governments of
Croatia, Macedonia and Albania on the matter and that Albania and
Macedonia had supported the charter. Rossin therefore hopes that
the parties will soon agree on a date for the signing of the
document.
According to him, officials of Croatia, Macedonia and Albania
should arrive in Washington on the agreed date and sign the charter
with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell.
The signing of the Adriatic Charter was previously planned for the
first half of this month, but was postponed due to Powell's busy
schedule because of the war in Iraq.
The United States, Croatia, Macedonia and Albania have already
harmonised the text of the charter and only the ceremonial signing
is now to be done.
The charter formalises Washington's support to Zagreb, Skopje and
Tirana on their road to NATO, and envisages cooperation between
those three aspirants to the alliance's membership in their bids to
enter NATO.
