Croatian president meets head of International Commission for Missing Persons

ZAGREB, April 21 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Thursday received Kathryne Bomberger, the director of the Sarajevo-based International Commission for Missing Persons which was established in 1996 to help in the search for people who have been unaccounted-for since the wars in the former Yugoslavia in the first half of the 1990s.

The commission, which has developed in the meantime into a global organisation active also in the Middle East, Latin America and southeaster Asia, is cooperating with Croatia's authorities in the process of identification of victims, the President's Office said in a statement.

Josipovic and Bomberger considered possibilities for organising a regional conference on missing people.

As for 40,000 people who went missing during the wars in the former Yugoslavia, 26,000 of them have been identified to date. Croatia is still searching for 1,825 people listed as missing.
