ZAGREB/BASEL, March 10 (Hina) - An outstanding scientist and university professor and one of the best table tennis players, Zarko Dolinar, died in Basel on Sunday night at the age of 83.

university professor and one of the best table tennis players,
Zarko Dolinar, died in Basel on Sunday night at the age of 83. #L#
Dolinar was born on 23 July 1920 in the northern Croatian town of
Koprivnica. In 1949 he graduated from the college of veterinary
medicine in Zagreb and in 1959 he won a doctoral degree.
Since 1963 he lived in Basel, Switzerland, where he was a professors
at a few faculties.
Dolinar won 25 international competitions in table tennis from 1936
to 1955. At world championships he mustered eight medals and in 1954
he and Vilim Harangoza won the gold medal as the best pair in the
world.
He was also a keen collector with over 25 collections of various
kinds.
The Swiss Red Cross bestowed the "Henri Dunant" medal on him, and he
also received the Israeli order of the righteous man in 1993.
The date of the funeral of this famous Croatian scientist and
athlete will be later announced.
