In a statement, the ministry said it appreciated Cox's claim, made
to Portuguese weekly Expresso of Saturday, adding it followed the
support expressed by European Council chairman Constantin Simitis,
European Commission president Romano Prodi, EU commissioner for
foreign affairs Chris Patten, EU commissioner for enlargement
Guenther Verheugen, and EU high representative for the common
foreign and security policy Javier Solana.
The positive reception given Croatia's recently submitted
application for full EU membership is further encouragement to
Croatia to step up the necessary reforms in order to make up for lost
time and be ready for the next expansion wave, the ministry said.
