ZAGREB, March 6 (Hina) - Explaining in a statement on Thursday
evening why the government would decide about a contract on the sale
of Sisak Ironworks to Russia's Mechel at its next session, Croatian
Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic said the government was waiting for
the contract, which was amended in the meantime, to be signed by all
three parties involved in the deal. #L#
According to the statement, Jurcic said at today's government
session that the bank guarantee submitted by the Russian buyer was
acceptable because it was payable and that the ministry had
received notice about agreement on the need to amend the contract,
however, only Mechel had signed it so far.
The contract did not arrive in the form that was acceptable to the
government, which was why this morning the minister said that
Mechel had issued an acceptable bank guarantee and agreed to make
the necessary changes to the contract, but that the amended
contract had not been signed by the other two parties - "Conares
trading" and the bankruptcy commissioner, the statement said.
Since it is not one of the parties signing the contract, the
government is waiting for the contract to be signed by all
interested parties, as it is one of the conditions for the sale of
the company, the statement noted.
As soon as a signed contract arrives, the government will make a
decision so that the contract could immediately go into force, the
statement noted.
