The European Social Charter and its protocols guarantee
fundamental rights regarding housing, health, education,
employment, social protection and the prevention of
discrimination.
Together with the European Convention on Human Rights, the Charter
covers fundamental human rights and by joining the Council of
Europe, Croatia bound itself to adopt and ratify it.
The charter, which so far has been signed by 33 and ratified by 26
countries, is part of the European Union's legislation.
By confirming it, Croatia joins the circle of countries which raise
the level of protection of its citizens' economic and social rights
and its implementation is supervised by the international
community, notes the statement.
