Papandreou told a press conference that the EU foreign ministers
discussed Croatia's application on Monday and that the matter would
be put on the agenda for the session in April.
He said the Council of Ministers would then ask the European
Commission to voice its opinion on the application.
The European Foreign Affairs Commissioner, Chris Patten, said that
the Commission would form its opinion on Croatia's application once
it received the green light from the Council and that usually takes
about one year to complete.
Croatia submitted its application for membership of the EU last
Friday in Athens.
The Council of Ministers on Monday discussed the EU's intention to
take over the SFOR mission in Bosnia.
