ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - The Croatian Railways management board (HZ)
believes it is not possible to increase wages to a share of HZ
employees, as the Croatian Railway Workers' Union has demanded
(SHZ), because in order to do so the wages of other employees would
have to be reduced. #L#
The union, which last year declined to sign a collective agreement,
seeks a 20 percent increase of hourly wages for workers in passenger
and cargo transport and those working on the maintenance of
locomotives and wagons.
HZ CEO Marijan Drempetic told a news conference that around 80
percent of workers were satisfied with the current income
allocation. The management board cannot revoke the collective
agreement to their detriment and increase the wages of a smaller
share of employees, he said.
He believes the wages of those workers could be increased only if
the SHZ joins the collective agreement, instigates proceedings to
amend the agreement and agrees with other union on wage
allocation.
