ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, Feb 13 (Hina) - EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana on Thursday expressed concern over the situation in Southern Serbia and urged all ethnic communities in the area to abide by the
rule of law, Solana's spokesman's office reported.

"I am deeply concerned by the serious attempts to undermine the rule
of law and to destabilise the situation in Southern Serbia," said
Solana.
"The increase in attacks on the multiethnic police, the
intimidation of the local authorities and the increased
racketeering by extremist groups have to stop immediately," he
added.
"Any use of violence is completely unacceptable and will not be
tolerated. I urge all communities in Southern Serbia to
unconditionally support and respect the rule of law and not to let
themselves be manipulated by gangsters," said Solana.
