The government today adopted a report on the work of the office in
2002.
Last year the office participated in the exhumation of the remains
of 560 persons, of whom 227 have been identified.
Early this year, the Croatian government was looking for 1,309
missing persons, while at this moment it is trying to trace 1,282
persons who went missing during the war, Grujic said.
He particularly pointed to the fact that Yugoslavia had for the
first time "admitted" that bodies from mass graves in formerly
Serb-occupied parts of Croatia had been transferred to other
locations with the participation of the Yugoslav People's Army.
Vice Premier Goran Granic said this was not enough. Croatia should
demand information on the new locations of the mass graves using all
diplomatic means and via international institutions, Granic said.
The government also adopted a decision on the reconstruction of the
Croatian refugee cemetery El Shatt, located on Sinai Peninsula.
In 1942 and 1943, El Shatt was a Croatian refugee camp and 852
persons were buried there.
The reconstruction of El Shatt, which will cost 1.83 million kuna
(EUR244,000), will be conducted by the Public Works,
Reconstruction and Construction Ministry.
