The round-table conference called "Free Zones -- To Be or Not To be
For Croatia", under the organisation of the Primorje-Gosrki Kotar
Alliance, gathered some 20 representatives of free zones and
companies operating in them, as well as representatives of the
Rijeka Chamber of Commerce.
According to international conventions, a free zone is a specially
regulated and enclosed production or other area in which foreign
goods may be imported without customs administrative proceedings,
free of customs fees, VAT and other taxes.
A new law on free zones in Croatia is one of the chief preconditions
for the inflow of foreign capital. Parliament should pass it as soon
as possible. Also, Croatia needs free zone management programmes,
which would be realised by the government, Milos said presenting
the association's work.
Fifteen free zones have been established in Croatia, of which two in
the Rijeka area -- Free Zone Rijeka and Free Zone Kukuljanovo.
