LS PRESIDENT: IF COALITION DOES NOT ACCEPT CRITICISM, LS MIGHT LEAVE

ZAGREB, Feb 3 (Hina) - The president of the Liberal Party (LS), Ivo Banac, said Monday he would assume responsibility if he was convinced that he had gone overboard with criticising his coalition partners. But the LS might leave the coalition "if coalition partners fail to accept correct criticism," he said at the first LS news conference since he was elected party president at the end of January.
#L# Reporters asked him how the LS could remain in the ruling coalition after statements about "the crooked policy of the premier and vice- premier, Ivica Racan and Slavko Linic. The party's aim is to offer a better strategy for the work of the ruling coalition, an active reform programme to fix omissions made during the past three years, said Banac. He said that in talks with Premier Racan, he had not used "hypercritical remarks" as he had done at the LS electoral assembly. The party presidency held a session on January 31, at which Zlatko Kramaric, Andrea Feldman and Helena Stimac Radin were elected as vice-presidents. (hina) lml sb
