The gathered were welcomed by Danilo Ljubotina, the parish priest
of Peroj and Pula prior, who thanked town and county authorities for
their contribution to the celebration of the holiday.
Yugoslavia's Minister of Religions, Bogoljub Sijakovic, said that
St. Sava was the most important figure of the Byzantine age and that
his messages of universalism were confirmed in Istria, where people
of different origin lived together rather than next to one another.
Sijakovic mentioned the example of Peroj outside Pula, which was
settled by Montenegrins 350 years ago.
The event, organised by the local Serb Orthodox church and the
community of Istria and Pula Serbs, was also attended by
representatives of the City of Pula, Istria County, Porec-Pula
diocese and the Yugoslav consul-general to Croatia, Vukic
Bulatovic.
