The aim of the conference called "EU Competition Policy – Practical implications for business in Croatia" was "to discuss the development of market competition in Croatia and its key issues, targeting senior management of Croatian companies and expert community," the AmCham said on its web site.
The president of AmCham Croatia, Don Markusic, told the event that Croatia had done much in developing the legislative framework for the protection of the market competition and now efforts should focus on the implementation of those regulations.
US Ambassador in Zagreb, James B. Foley, finds that it is crucial for Croatia to have the economy able to compete on the international market.
There is no choice. Croatia must be a competitive economy with a favourable business climate, the ambassador said.
Croatian President Ivo Josipovic's advisor Boris Cota said that the role of the state in the economy was still big with the weak competitiveness of the economy.
Therefore it is necessary to upgrade the market competition and institutions protecting it, he added.
